Travis Bruse from Horace has been named the North Dakota Legion Eagle Scout of the Year by the Department of North Dakota American Legion.

Bruse has been involved with scouting since 2004 and in 2009 became the first Eagle Scout of Troop 274. The West Fargo High School graduate exceeded the 21 Merit Badge requirements by earning 105 and has won awards such as the Boy Scouts of America God and Life Religious Award.

The recipient of the award is made each year based on the Eagle Scout’s involvement in his school, church and community.

One of the following requirements are mandatory to receive the Eagle Scout of the Year award:

  • Member of a Boy Scout Troop
  • Varsity Scout Team or Explorer Post commissioned to an American Legion Post or Auxiliary Unit
  • Son or grandson of a Legionnaire or Auxiliary member

Bruse has been accepted and plans to attend NDSU in the fall for architecture and eventually work in Fargo/Moorhead.
