There is something in the air during September in Bismarck-Mandan. Some of the best festivals and events happen in September.

In North Dakota, September means back to school but it is also the month where we experience some of the best weather, normally. After all, this is North Dakota and we have seen very hot days in the month and even very cold days.

One of my favorite outdoor festivals in September is Applefest! I have attended the festival for several years and it is one of the best. The setting is at Buckstop Junction which is a perfect location for family fun, featuring the old town, Main street  and historic buildings.

Applefest is September 22nd and 23rd. This is the 12th year for festival which benefits the Bismarck Cancer Center

What is a country festival without delicious food and you'll find plenty of North Dakota's favorite dishes, live music, craft vendors, children’s games, a tractor show and much more! Of course, you'll find apples on every corner and various delicious apple treats. My favorite is the fresh apple cider. They churn the cider right there before your eyes and you can even help make the cider. It's not as easy as it looks but it is delicious.

The 5K Applefest fun run is Sunday. Registration at 7:30a with the start at 9am.

The kids will enjoy the parades through Main street at various times on Saturday and Sunday. You know there will be an apple pie eating contest and live music though out the weekend.

Live music is abundant at various stage locations on Main street and in some of the buildings. There is a bake sale and various games for kids of all ages to enjoy. One of my favorite games to play are the paintball gallery with live targets

It's a slice of North Dakota country living and country fun at Applefest, this coming weekend at Buckstop Junction in Bismarck, off Bismarck Expressway, East.

You can see the schedule of events here.
