University of North Dakota Athletic Director Brian Faison made the announcement today that Bubba Schweigert has signed a contract extension as head football coach of the Fighting Hawks through 2021.

Schweigert was rewarded, thanks in large part to the success of a football season in which UND made the FCS Playoffs for their first time in school history, and won their first ever Big Sky Conference Championship. The Fighting Hawks earned a 7-seed in the FCS Playoffs by going 9-2 prior to their playoff loss, and 8-0 in Big Sky conference play.

Schweigert took over the team after the Fighting Hawks went 3-8 in 2013. They've made steady improvements in the seasons since, going 5-7 in 2014, 7-4 in 2015, then 9-3 in their historic 2016 season.

Schweigert is a Zeeland, ND native and was named Big Sky Coach of the Year in 2016.
