UND Hockey Coach Brad Berry Gets New Five-Year Contract
The University of North Dakota has announced they are giving a new five-year contract to hockey coach Brad Berry.
The new contract retains Berry through the 2022-23 season. Berry still had one year remaining on his existing contract before the new deal. The new contract comes with a base salary of $400,000 per year.
In 2015, Berry took over as head coach and led UND to a national championship in his first season. By doing so, Berry became the first coach to win a championship in their first season.
In his first three season, Berry has helped UND to a 72-35-17 record, as well as a return to the NCAA Tournament in 2017.
North Dakota Athletic Director Bill Chaves made a statement on Coach Berry's new contract:
Today, he is one of only seven active coaches to have won a national championship and that is a big deal. Brad epitomizes UND hockey and we could not be more excited that he will continue leading our historic program. Coaching stability is a key ingredient for success and today’s extension provides us just that for our program.
UND's 2018-2019 will open up this fall in an exhibition game against Manitoba on October 6th.
