Vikings Coach & QB Have Violent Exchange After Win
Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer had a perplexing moment with his quarterback Kirk Cousins on Sunday afternoon. Vikings' kicker Greg Joseph smashed a 54-yard game-winning field goal as time expired to give Minnesota a 19-17 victory over the Lions. As the kick went through the uprights, quarterback Kirk Cousins appeared to give coach Zimmer a love punch and a push, Zimmer pushed Cousins back, and then it appeared he had to be restrained by another coach. They separated at that point and the full-on celebration began. Here's that exchange by the Cousins and Zimmer.
It just looked awkward, to be honest. Much like the game itself, where the Vikings almost fumbled away another victory. The win may have saved Mike Zimmer's job. It was speculated by many media outlets, that if the Vikings lost to the winless Lions, Zimmer may have been fired going into the bye. The Vikings will now play at Carolina next Sunday, where they typically struggle. The win over the Lions improves Minnesota's record to 2-3. It's weird, the Vikings could easily be 5-0 with all these close games. On the other hand, they could be 0-5. Minnesota was a 10 point favorite over the Lions and a come-from-behind victory did not sit well with most Vikings fans.
Getting back to the Kirk Cousins and Mike Zimmer incident. Their relationship is rumored to have been rocky from the get-go. Zimmer reportedly didn't want Cousins as his quarterback back when they signed him. Cousins not getting vaccinated this season has reportedly caused waves with the coach as well.
Looks like both of them are stuck together for at least another week.
