If you are a sports enthusiast, which most North Dakotans are, you will be excited to hear this. It's news you don't hear every day. North Dakota is getting a new professional basketball team.

The announcement made headlines last week (August 1st). News sources reported that a new professional basketball team is in the works and will be based out of New Town.

New Professional Team

According to The Dickinson Press, 4 Bears Casino & Lodge will not only be one of the best Casinos in our state, it will also soon be home to The Basketball League's newest team, named "The Roar." This team will be the fourth professional sports team owned by a Native American tribe in the United States.

According to KFYR, the team will begin playing in the 2026 season with a roster of 12 to 15 players. The league's season is scheduled to run from March to June, with most games taking place on weekends.

The source says "The Roar" isn't the first professional basketball team to be hosted in North Dakota. There were four others: The Fargo-Moorhead Beez, Fargo-Moorhead Fever, Magic City Snowbears, and Minot SkyRockets.
