So we are all coming off the big Western Dakota Association tournaments over the weekend at the Bismarck Civic Center. This weekend is always one of the craziest, emotional, action packed times where every good basketball player in western North Dakota takes over our city. I would like to call it the basketball family reunion because yes it's full of the family drama watching each team go head to head in each round. These teams have been practicing and training, day in and out, all while being students and holding other responsibilities. Then there are the parents and extended family of these players who make sure their kids are at every practice, that they are cheering them on at every game, that they are donned in the Patriots, Braves, Saint's,Demon's, Jamestown gear. Parents proudly wearing their son's or daughter's number and their uniform picture on a button. So families and fans pack the Bismarck Civic Center.

Of course everyone in town needs to eat and shop so head to Target, Kirkwood Mall, Ground Round,Applebee's and you will find long lines of people.People are catching up with each other, on how the players stack up, what will the state tournament be like, what's going on with each family. TV camera's, Radio's, Newspaper's and Facebook are lit up keeping track of each game.

WDA tournament weekend gives our town the best basketball action, brings us all together cheering and anxious at the same time. The athletes hard work on the court gives us all pride, we remember no matter how much we have grown North Dakota is still a family and know your neighbors place. I look forward to state as the St.Mary's (#1) boys, Mandan and BHS advance. For the girls BHS (#1), Mandan and Jamestown advance to state.

This upcoming weekend the basketball family reunion gets bigger when the entire state comes together to crown the best in basketball in North Dakota. We hope #1 goes to our Western Dakota Association teams . They are already #1 for their dedication, teamwork, sacrifice and inspiration they provide all of us. Look forward to our WDA basketball family reunion 2014 when every town in Western North Dakota comes together for a basketball family reunion.
