It remains to be seen if we’ll ever revisit Wet Hot American Summer with another Ten Years Later (or beyond), but there’s always more to see. An alternate beginning to the sequel series reveals the one (downer) introduction Coop mercifully missed out on.

Now that Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later is officially out there, the Netflix series’ Twitter account dropped a deleted scene that would otherwise have served as the opening moments. In it, Coop (Michael Showalter) is again pining for an ending to his book, and inadvertently crushing his waitress’ dreams in the process:

Of course, Coop still made it into the opening regardless, as a separate scene reintroduced the character alongside his publisher (Melanie Lynskey), who similarly reminds him of the book’s need for closure. The revised scene also gets a literal and figurative bookend in the finale, as two characters get together once the book is complete.

There’s still hope Wet Hot American Summer can return us to Camp Firewood at least one more time, but what other deleted moments might have been lost in the eight episodes? All episodes are otherwise available on Netflix.
