Why Are 1 in 3 North Dakota Teenagers Into Vaping?
Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health is working to encourage teenagers to quit vaping.
According to KFYR-TV, one in three North Dakota teenagers vape and Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health is taking measures to encourage teens to quit. Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health is reportedly offering seminars "throughout the school year for students to learn the dangers of smoking and talk with friends about giving up tobacco."
Why do teenagers pick up vaping?
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, there are three main reasons why teenagers are into vaping. Those three reasons are:
- They want to experiment
- They like the flavors
- They are hooked on vaping
National Institute on Drug Abuse also reports that there are concerns about how vaping affects teenagers' brain development and how it can become addicting.
Should we believe that educating teenagers about the dangers of vaping will stop them from doing it?
It is not that I think teenagers should be vaping and smoking, but I wonder if we should actually believe that educating them about it will get them to stop? I do think it is shocking how many people are into vaping and smoking, but there is nothing that is going to prevent them or stop them from doing it. And I doubt there is any real intention to get them to stop, this is basically as pointless as the war on drugs.
It might be extreme to compare education about vaping to the war on drugs, we should really think about it. The smoking and vaping industry spends a lot of money advertising to turn around and make tons of money off consumers. As long as there is a market for it, there will always be new and young smokers.
