Another Significant Snow Event Set To Hit North Dakota Next Week

Get ready for an active weather week in North Dakota starting Monday.  

A series of clipper systems will bring wind and some light snow to North Dakota both on Monday and Tuesday.  Light snow accumulations are expected from these two systems with an inch or two expected.  Winds could gust up to 40 miles per hour causing some blowing and drifting possible travel issues.

The BIG system however is expected to move into North Dakota on Wednesday.

Another Colorado Low that could bring significant accumulations to North Dakota especially in southern North Dakota with the most favorable area for heavy snow in southeast North Dakota.  Strong winds will accompany this storm, especially on Thursday.

So how much snow is expected for Bismarck Mandan?

According to weather models that I viewed and forecasts I've seen from various weather agencies it looks like Bismarck Mandan will be on the northern edge of this system.  In fact, I94 looks like the cut-off for central North Dakota.  It's way too early to predict exact storm totals but 2-4 inches looks possible.  If the storm track shifts it could bring more or less for Bismarck Mandan.

Heavier snow looks likely for southeast North Dakota and much of South Dakota.  Central and southern Minnesota look to be in the bullseye as well.

If you have travel plans Wednesday or Thursday of next week towards Fargo, Sioux Falls, or Minneapolis you should be aware of potential hazardous travel conditions.

Many people ignored forecasts for this past week's Valentine's evening storm and spent the night in their cars.
