It appears that North Dakota is pretty lucky to have the city of Bismarck as its state capital. After all, it's one of the best capital cities in the U.S. to live in.

According to the financial wizards at WalletHub, Bismarck ranks as the 5th best capital city in the U.S. to live in. By now, it's no secret that Bismarck is one of the most overall affordable capital cities for cost of living and ranks among the top cities for 'well-being.' In those two determining categories alone, Bismarck ranks 3rd and 1st among state capitals.

I could spew several other socio-economic rankings for Bismarck right now, but instead, I'll revert back to a list of some of the intangibles that we've all grown to know and for the most part, love about Bismarck.

  • 'North Dakota Nice' - I've lived in a total of six states in my life, which may not seem like a lot, or maybe it does but I can honestly say the people here are by far,  some of the nicest people I've ever known in any city.
  • Experiencing Four Legit Seasons - Say what you will about the winters here, but even if you think those are brutal, the actual feel of spring and fall make up for it. And on top of all that, every day of summer you can take the boat out on the river and live it up. I've never known a city like that.
  • Downtown Bismarck - In every city I've lived in, including bigger cities (St. Louis, MO, Dallas, TX), the most common complaint people have is, "There's not enough to do." I happen to frequent the downtown area and I often have a tough time running out of things to do here. Whether it's going to a sporting event (Bucks, Larks, Bobcats) or just enjoying a night on the town, I've always found something to do here. That's not the case in any other city I've lived.

Everyone has different takes on their experiences in any given city, but when I notice that Bismarck ranks in the top five capital cities in the U.S., I'm not the least bit surprised.

If you happen to be missing all the socio-economic data you were hoping to receive in this article and you would like to know where other capital cities rank, the map below may give you an idea of what you missed.
