A North Dakota Classic Named The State’s Best Dessert
I've written about North Dakota's favorite dessert numerous times. You would be hard-pressed to find anyone in the state who doesn't love these ooey-gooey, mouth-watering treats. It would be even harder to find anyone who hasn't at least tried these tasty morsels before. And, the more delectable caramel sauce, the better. I'm going into a diabetic coma just thinking about them.
North Dakota's Favorite Dessert - Caramel Rolls
According to our friends at Cheapism, who named the best dessert in each state, the runner-up, and where to try them, caramel rolls rule supreme in the Peace Garden State.
The best place to try them? Well, according to the article, it's a joint called Deaner's Diner in West Fargo, North Dakota. Our listeners beg to differ. Check out our list below, including some fine options in the Capital Region.

Dang, all this sweet goodness is getting me craving this North Dakota staple. There is nothing like a good caramel roll, and I know so many people in the state enjoy making their own caramel rolls at home. Some of these recipes have been passed down for generations. The one thing they all have in common? The more sauce, the better. At least that's my take.
Now, for North Dakota's Runner-Up Dessert - Chippers
The 2nd best desert in the state is also a good one. They're known as "chippers." What is a chipper? Chocolate-covered potato chips, a dessert invented right here in North Dakota by Widman's Candy. You can get them covered in milk, dark chocolate, or white almond. There's a Widman's in both my hometown of Grand Forks and also one located in Fargo. If you have never tried a "chipper" before, it's worth it. Believe me, and I'm not much of a potato chip fan, but there is something about the sweet and salty combo.
Okay, that's it, I'm officially hungry.
