Fall in North Dakota = Pumpkins, and This One Is the Biggest Ever
We are getting closer and closer to the first official day of fall. There are signs of the season changing everywhere in North Dakota. Fall decor is in our stores, pumpkin spiced drinks are on our restaurant menus, and even the pumpkin patches are starting to open up.
Speaking of pumpkins... when you go to the pumpkin patch, it's always fun to look at the biggest ones. It's impressive how big they can get.
Fun Fact: According to USA Today, the world's largest pumpkin to date weighed in at 2,749 pounds and was approximately the size of an adult male walrus.
For perspective, the average pumpkin weighs between 10 and 20 pounds.
Have you ever wondered about the biggest pumpkin in North Dakota? Well, I have, so I looked it up.

According to PumpkinFanatic.com, the largest recorded pumpkin of all time in North Dakota came out of Walhalla, North Dakota, and was grown by a man named Kent Carrier.
He broke the statewide record in 2018 with a 1921.5-pound pumpkin. That's an enormous pumpkin! Can you imagine trying to move that thing?
The farmer, Kent Carrier, also holds the second-largest pumpkin title for his 2020 pumpkin that weighed in at 1806.5 pounds.
You have to wonder, what's the secret? How does a person get their pumpkins to grow so large? I do not have a green thumb, so I won't even guess.
Instead, I'll daydream about all of the pumpkin pies that massive pumpkin could've made.
Anyway, have fun at the pumpkin patches this year, and remember, this October we're painting our pumpkins pink again, with "Pink Pumpkins for a Purpose." For each pumpkin picture uploaded to the Hot 97.5 app $1 will be donated to the Bismarck Cancer Center Foundation.
Take a look at last year's submissions.
