We are always told to be careful with the information we put out into the wide, wide world of web. But, let's be real, we are susceptible to being hacked and having our worlds rocked.

KFYR-TV is reporting that a Mandan mad has been charged with defamation. Allegedly, the man tried to frame a teacher by creating and sending fake messages, on social media, in the teacher's name. The suspect, Jacob Thompson, has been accused of "creating fake messages containing racist and sexual remarks." Thompson's plot for revenge got the teacher placed on administrative leave. Now, I do not know all of the dirty details as to why the man wanted revenge (KFYR-TV says he lost a civil case to the woman). But, this is an extreme way to act on anger. This poor elementary school teacher's reputation could now be tarnished because of Jacob Thompson's scheme.

Cybercrime is so disturbing. Criminals hide behind keyboards and wreak havoc on the lives of unsuspecting, innocent people. I looked up some information on cyber crime, just to see if there is new or profound information out there for protecting yourself. Of course, I found nothing new OR profound.

I guess we can only do what we can. We can do things like have unpredictable and ever-changing passwords, do online updates, and keep personal information personal. But no one is 100% safe from becoming a victim.

What do you do to protect yourself from a cyber criminal?
