If you're not paying attention to parking signs, you might want to start!

According to the latest Mandan E-Newsletter, the city of Mandan, North Dakota plans to increase parking violations next year (2025).

The newsletter explained that back in June (2024) the City Commission considered a request from the Parking Authority. They proposed changes to parking violation fines in the city.

These proposed changes included:

1. Increasing the loading zone and fire lane violation to $50.

2. Increasing the fine for parking within 10 feet of a fire hydrant from $10 to $20.

3. Increasing all other parking fines from $10 to $15.

The proposed changes were approved by the commission during another meeting that took place later this summer (July 16th).

According to the City of Mandan, parking fines currently double after 10 days of non-payment. After 20 day it is sent over to Municipal Court, where additional court fees are added.

If a ticket remains unpaid, a warrant for the registered vehicle's owner can be issued for non-payment.

Suffice to say, you want to pay on time, or you could rack up a much bigger fine or worse, end up in jail.

The changes will go into effect January 1st 2025.

Parking Problems?

You have to wonder why the Parking Authority proposed these changes. Are parking violations in the city of Mandan becoming a problem?

Well, according to the City of Mandan, these changes were made in hopes to encourage better parking habits, and to keep parking for businesses open to customers.

What do you think about these changes? Do think there is an issue in Mandan where people are often parking in the wrong spots?
