The owner of a secondhand store in Fargo has been denied license to open a second location in Moorhead.

Shannon Grindberg, procurer of Phat Kat Antiques and Vintage Vinyl (1501 1st Ave. S. in Fargo), was turned down in a 5-3 vote by the Moorhead City Council on Monday (May 11). He was looking to open a second location at 1030 Main Ave. in Moorhead.

The decision was based largely on his conviction of theft in March of 2014.

Earlier that year, Grindberg made a $200 purchase of goods that turned out to be stolen. When police questioned him regarding the items, he denied having them. The rightful owner of the lifted items later purchased them back for $220.

Grindberg claims that he did not know the items were stolen, and "that he lied to a police detective because she never properly identified herself," according to Inforum.com.

Grindberg has also been denied renewal of his Fargo secondhand business license.
