North Dakota lawmakers are closer to punishing NDSU (and other colleges) for working with Planned Parenthood.

Last month, lawmakers decided to put pressure on North Dakota State University to discontinue the university's working relationship with Planned Parenthood. A bill was introduced to cut federal funding to the college, and 10 other North Dakota colleges, if NDSU did not end the program with the controversial organization. NDSU's president has already said he will not give in to the political pressure. But that will not stop North Dakota lawmakers from trying to send us back to a pre-Roe v. Wade era.

According to AP News, yesterday (April 7), the North Dakota House passed Senate bill that would cut funds to North Dakota State University for offering a sex education program through Planned Parenthood. The bill was passed in a 66-25 vote, with an amendment to the part where other schools would be punished if NDSU kept their ties to Planned Parenthood.

Now, the bill aims to punish other schools only if they enter into a contract with someone who is performs or promotes abortions. AP News stated that "The school official signing the contract also would face a misdemeanor charge punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $1,500 fine," if the school did end up participating with a similar program to NDSU's. You read that right - a school official could be FINED AND IMPRISONED FOR OFFERING SEX EDUCATION.

The bill will now go back to the Senate for review. Get the full story here.

How do North Dakota lawmakers not realize that sex education and abortion are not synonymous? In fact, if you want to prevent abortion, you should let your kids get a proper sex education. On top of that, abortion has been legal since 1973! If you do not believe in abortion, do not get one.
