North Dakota Lottery Winners Can Choose to Remain Anonymous

With the Powerball jackpot reaching a staggering $1.5 billion, it's going to be incredibly difficult to stay anonymous if you win, unless, of course, you buy your ticket in North Dakota.

According to TODAY, North Dakota is one of six states that don't require you to come forward if you possess the winning ticket. The other five states are Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, Ohio, and South Carolina.

So, what does that mean? It means that you don't have to stand up in front of a throng of reporters answering questions, all while holding a gigantic novelty check. Sounds pretty great, right?

TODAY actually recommends purchasing your ticket in one of those six states, if you live close enough, because the rule of whether or not you have to come forward depends on where you purchased the ticket, not where you reside.

TODAY also offers up some other advice, if you want to stay under-the-radar after your big win, including:

• Don't tell anyone
• Delete social media accounts
• Wear a disguise
• Disconnect all phones
• Get out of town
• Set up an LLC or trust
• Don't make any big purchases right away
