Remember all that light and fluffy snow you've been shoveling around after last week's historic blizzard?  Looks like it's going to blow around causing significant blowing and drifting.  That will lead to travel problems.

According to a special weather statement from the National Weather Service in Bismarck, we are expecting wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour.  The strongest winds will be tomorrow (Thursday) and the winds will linger into Friday.

You can expect some light snow today and tomorrow as a cold front approaches.  We're expecting up to two inches of new snow.  The winds will start to fire up late this afternoon from the northwest and will stick around through Friday.

The gusty winds will cause significant blowing and drifting snow with visibilities as low as one-half mile or less in open country on Thursday.

Black ice is possible this afternoon and evening ahead of this approaching front as temperatures will warm into the upper 20s.  This could cause very icy roads.

Wind chills will likely fall off to 20 below zero on Thursday night.

These winter weather conditions may make travel very difficult.  If you have travel plans, be sure to check the latest road reports, and carry a winter survival kit in your vehicle.

UPDATE:

A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from 9 pm tonight until 6 pm Thursday.  Look for an inch or two of accumulations with gusty northwest winds up to 45 mph and reduced visibility.  This is for all of western and central North Dakota.
