The Old Farmer’s Almanac 2022 Winter Forecast For Bismarck
Did you know there's actually two almanacs that predict your winter weather forecasts each and every year?
The Farmer's almanac, which predicts a "Flip Flop Winter" for North Dakota this coming winter. Which basically means a lot of variations in temperatures, and slightly above normal precipitation for North Dakota. You can read my article on that here.
There's another almanac that puts out their fearless predictions for winter and the entire year called "The OLD Farmer's Almanac." According to TipHero, the Old Farmer's Almanac has been around for over 225 years. That's a long time. Meanwhile, the Farmer's Almanac has been around since 1818. 203 years to be exact. Pretty long time too. The Old Farmer's Almanac boasts of an 80% accuracy in their winter forecasts. Although, last year they admit they were off a bit with a 77% accuracy. They were WRONG by the way on OUR snow forecast. They predicted above average and we know how that wasn't true.
So, what is the Old Farmer's Almanac saying about the winter of 2022 for Bismarck, North Dakota?
They haven't revealed the eastern half of our state yet, but the western half of North Dakota is out of the bag. They are predicting a warmer than average winter for Bismarck, and above average snowfall. I think that would be a welcome forecast for most of us in North Dakota. The average Bismarck snowfall a year is 46.2 inches of snow according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall above that mark would certainly help with our current drought situation.
The coldest periods of the winter are expected to mid to late November, late December and early and mid to late January.
Snowiest periods will be mid to late November, late December, early to mid January and the last third of March.
To be honest, both forecasts from the Farmer's Almanac and the Old Farmer's Almanac are very similar. I for one am hoping the Old Farmer's Almanac has got it right.
