Has a New Trafficking Scam Come to Fargo-Moorhead?
This morning, I came across a Facebook post on my newsfeed about a Fargo-Moorhead woman's creepy experience in her own driveway.
Aleisha Schock posted about finding a car rim laying next to her car in the driveway. She stated that her initial thought was to check the tires for which one was missing a time. But she then realized that the rim was not even hers. Aleisha did not think much of it until she came back a short time later to find that the rim had vanished. Aleshia's post stated that she did a little research and found that the weird experience could have been a failed kidnapping/trafficking attempt.
Some may think that stories like Aleshia's are the result of "paranoid thoughts," but this should be taken seriously. We do like to think we are pretty safe and sheltered here, but weird, scary, dangerous stuff happens. In fact, if you Google "kidnapping attempts North Dakota," you can find several stories of attempted kidnappings as recently as last month.
When I lived in Fargo, I worked at the mall for a while. I remember that it was a rule of the establishment I worked for that we could not leave the store at night alone. But it could also be scary during the day. One time, during the day, an employee was leaving her shift. Shortly after walking out the employee doors, she was grabbed by her hair and almost pulled into a car! She started screaming and was luckily able to escape. But she was definitely scarred from such a horrifying event.
Whether the rim was a fluke or a part of a sinister plot, it never hurts to be hyper-aware of everything going on around you. It could save your life. And if you would like to learn more about trafficking in North Dakota, check out 31:8 Project.
