The Fourth of July is meant to be a fun celebration of our nation's independence. Barbeques, yard games, and of course, fireworks are all essential to the celebration.

Banned In Bismarck

Unfortunately, in the city of Bismarck, the following is true.

"The sale, possession or discharge of fireworks within the City of Bismarck is prohibited."

This is according to a press release that was sent last year, (Wednesday, June 28th) sent by Lt. Luke Gardiner.

Anyone who violates this city ordinance could be charged with a class B misdemeanor. This is punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a fine up to $1,500.

Which Ones?

If you're wondering which fireworks are banned, well that's easy...it's all of them. You cannot shoot off fireworks in Bismarck's city limits. Period.

"Anything sold at a firework stand, which must be ignited, including snakes and sparklers..."

Yep, you read that right; even one of the most kid-friendly, essential, Fourth of July novelties is not allowed within the city.

Sparklers.

I find it somewhat sad that the children of Bismarck will not get to have the same experience I did as a kid. Writing my name with the sparkler, spinning and twirling around, pretending I'm Tinkerbell... that magical feeling.

What Do You Think?

Is this a little too strict, or do you feel it is necessary to keep all fireworks outside of the city limits? Send us a message through the app, by hitting the "Chat" button.

And in any case, have a great and safe Fourth of July Celebration.
