Bismarck: One Dead In Officer-Involved Shooting
As I was scrolling through Facebook this morning, a gripping headline caught my eye: "Man Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting in Bismarck". It was clearly an unsettling evening in Bismarck late last night. At around 10:00 PM, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Riverside Park Road.
Before the police arrived, there was a call to 9-1-1 to report loud noises that sounded like sawing and hammering. Not only that, but the caller also reported that the man making all the commotion said he had a bomb. Another neighbor reported that the man said he had weapons and would use them if anyone tried to enter his home. There had also been other similar complaints called in about the man earlier in the evening.
The police had to evacuate several nearby residences as the man was an apparent threat. He refused to come out of his home. He told officers he had several rounds of ammunition, and he could blow up the neighbor's wall, and barricaded himself inside his home.
After that, SWAT officers were negotiating with the man. They then heard gunshots from inside his residence. About 10 minutes later, the man was shooting out of a second-story window with a pistol. Officers responded by shooting back. The 30-year-old man was found dead inside.
There is an investigation being conducted by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
