Bismarck’s Bumpiest Ride (So. Wash) Is Going Under Construction

South Washington street, one of Bismarck's bumpiest rides, is about to get a makeover.  Road construction is set to begin on today at 8:30 am, June 1st and is expected to last until early July.

Washington Street, South of Expressway Ave between Bismarck Expressway and Easy Street will have restricted movements. The restrictions will be for a contractor to replace a water main in the northbound roadway and reconstruction of the roadway.  Can you believe that?  The city is finally going to do something about the rough ride we've all come to love and know.   Southbound traffic on Washington Street will be reduced to one lane. Northbound traffic will be reduced to one left turn lane, two through lanes and one right turn lane.

 According to an email received from the city of Bismarck, Denver Avenue will be closed to east/west traffic at Washington Street during this time. Access to all local businesses will be maintained. Businesses east of Washington Street and North of Denver Avenue can be accessed from Portland Drive.

 Riverwood Drive will be open to east/west traffic. Businesses West of Washington Street and Fox Island boat ramp can be accessed from Riverwood Drive.

 This will be an ongoing project with multiple phases. Look for traffic to be shifted when needed.

 All truck traffic will be detoured around the construction zone. The truck detour route, for trucks wanting to access the area from the North, will utilize Bismarck Expressway to University Drive/ 9^th Street south to 12^th Street south to Burleigh Avenue and west back to Washington Street.

 Trucks needing to access the area may do so from the South, use Washington Street to Burleigh Avenue east to 12^th Street north to University Drive/ 9^th Street to Expressway.

 Traffic can expect long delays during this project phase. This project will impact traffic movements in this area through early July of 2021.
