A Ramsey Country (MN) Sheriff deputy will not see jail time is he follows the conditions of his probation for abusing his K9 partner named "Boone". The story got national attention plus petitions were signed for the deputies firing.

Brett Barry, 48 pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty, the charge of assaulting a public safety dog was dismissed at Wednesday's sentencing hearing in front the Carlton County judge.

After the hearing, Officer Berry said

“I made a mistake. I’m sorry,”

Since the incident at Black Bear Casino in Carlton County, K9 Officer Boone has been placed with another partner and Officer Berry has been placed in another division of the Sheriff's Department. The dog beating officer was sentenced to 90 days in jail, plus $500 in fines and fees, he will not see any time in jail if he follows  the conditions set by the court of 12 months of probation including paying for all vet fees, cannot own pets and commit no similar offenses.
