A sheriff’s deputy shot a suspect three times after the suspect pulled out a large knife  and attacked the officer during an early morning traffic stop.

The incident happened on Highway 18, just outside on Neche, ND in Pembina County.  Just after Midnight Sunday,(June 5th)  the officer noticed the vehicle traveling very slowly. As the deputy approached the vehicle, a man got out of the passengers side and attacked the officer, according to the report. The suspect pulled out a large knife during the attack, the deputy used the Taser on the man and ran back to his squad car.

The suspect then followed the officer and jumped on the squad car, the officer then fired his service revolver three times at point blank range. The suspect then fled to his car, jumped in the passenger's side and the female driver drove off from the scene.

The injured suspect was then found at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. The names of all involved in the incident, including the deputy have not been released. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation.

The officer received minor injuries in the incident.
