3 Biggest Threats To Your Dog On The 4th Of July
We love our furry friends, but I think we can all agree that the Fourth of July isn't the safest holiday for them, and I'm sure it's certainly not their favorite.
While we're celebrating our nation's independence, you want to remember not to get too carried away. Keep your pets in mind when you're celebrating the holiday this year.
According to the American Veterinary Association, there are several major threats to dogs on the Fourth of July. Here are a few:
1. Fireworks
This one is pretty obvious. Most dogs do not like the booming sound of exploding fireworks. Your animal can get very anxious, scared, and even agitated. Do what you can to make your dog feel safe and comfortable, and remember to keep them tied up! Some dogs get so scared the run away.
2. Overheating
The Fourth of July falls in the dead of summer, while we typically remember to hydrate ourselves, we also need to remember to keep an eye on our dogs and make sure they have the same proper hydration and shade.
3. Debris
Popping off snappers and all kinds of other fireworks is a good time, but make sure to pick up the debris as you go. You don't want your dog to eat any of it or choke on it.
Those are the top concerns, but you also want to make sure pets are not close to flames and where fireworks are getting shot off; you don't want them to get burned.
Another thing you want to be careful about is the food you give them. While hot dogs and other Fourth of July foods might be okay for us to eat, you probably shouldn't give them to your dog.
Have fun and look out for your furry friend this Fourth of July!
