Driving in general is dangerous; just look at how many car crashes occur in North Dakota each day. According to a report published by Vision Zero ND, there are approximately 29 each day, coming out to 10,400 annually.

Look, I don't pretend to be the best driver. I mean, those curbs really just pop out of nowhere. I'm actually a victim. Anyway, back to the point, even the best drivers get into crashes, and sometimes it's not their fault.

This fall, you should keep your eyes open, because the roads are about to get extremely dangerous, especially at night. And no, I'm not talking about all the crazy road construction, but yes, that is dangerous and confusing to drive through, too.

What I mean is that fall is coming, and with it comes one of the most deadly animals in the United States.

Beware of Bambi

Between October and early December, deer will be crossing our North Dakota roads. Most people have had a nearly catastrophic deer encounter while driving. Nothing makes your heart race like nearly hitting a sprinting deer.

While the deer population has gone down over the years, the threat is very much still out there. They will soon be moving around a lot during mating and hunting season.

According to Vision Zero, there is an average of 2,900 deer-vehicle collisions in North Dakota each year.

To make sure you don't crash this fall, remember to always wear a seatbelt while driving, use high beams when you're able to, and be mindful of wildlife crossing zones.
