Are North Dakotans getting enough sleep?

It can be hard to get enough sleep at night. And while the Centers for Disease Control recommends that adults get a minimum of seven hours a night, that is just not always doable. Just how many North Dakotans are not getting at least a solid seven hours of sleep each night?

The 32.8% of North Dakotans not getting enough sleep could be negatively impacting their health.

According to 24/7 Wall St., 32.8% of North Dakotans over the age of 20 do not get enough sleep. The national average for adults not getting enough sleep is 35.2%. Not getting enough sleep can have terrible effects on your health. 24/7 Wall St. reports that 9.4% of North Dakotans have diabetes and 33.9% are clinically obese.

I am part of the 32.8% of North Dakotans who do not get enough sleep.

I am one of those people who falls asleep easily. I like to joke that I am passed out before my head hits the pillow. But I definitely fall into the category of people who do not get enough hours of beauty rest. I am seriously just kind of a chronically sleepy person.

And there are many factors that can cause a person to lose precious hours of shuteye. Personally, most nights, I do not make it to bed before 11 and I am always awake before 6. I do not even actually need an alarm because either my sweet cat or my anxiety will have me up and alert. Luckily, my lack of sleep has yet to affect my health. Let's hope it stays that way.
