Is North Dakota Expensive for Speeding Tickets? Here’s How It Ranks
We're all guilty of doing this from time to time. Maybe you're hurrying to get to work or get your kids to school on time. When we're running a little behind, we might make the unfortunate decision to drive a little too fast.
Speeding is something we don't want to do for safety reasons, of course, but also so we don't get a dun dun duuun...ticket.
Nothing quite compares to the feeling you get when you see those flashing lights come up behind you in the rearview mirror. It's a sinking in your stomach and a flood of anxiety.
Most North Dakotans have been pulled over once or twice in their lives, but if you've never gotten a speeding ticket and were curious how much it costs in North Dakota, we found an interesting study looking at the minimum fines for each state.
Visual Capitalist looked at each state's record of speeding tickets and found where you will pay the most for tickets and where you will pay the least.

As you can imagine, Californians, on average, pay the most for speeding tickets. The average person who gets ticketed for going 10 miles over the speed limit has to pay $234. Ouch.
Arizona, Nevada, Texas, and Florida all made the top five for the highest fines.
While North Dakota doesn't have the cheapest fines overall, we're still ranked in the bottom five! New Mexico has the cheapest fine at $25. New Mexico is followed by Nebraska, Montana, and then North Dakota.
A North Dakotan will pay approximately $40 for a 10 mph over speeding ticket. It's not bad compared to other states. Can you imagine paying over $200 for going ten over? I'd start walking everywhere just out of fear.
Anyway, stay safe driving around North Dakota and try to avoid getting those tickets.
