Bismarck-Mandan could use more variety in restaurant options.

I have to say that I love a restaurant with some good chicken strips, fries, and ranch. And you can't go wrong with a place that offers a hearty meal almost as good as your mom makes. But, sometimes, a North Dakotan needs a little variety in their meal options. And a new and unique dining option will soon be open in Bismarck.

A new ramen restaurant will soon be opening in Bismarck.

I was recently driving down Third Street in Bismarck, passing Shelter Belt, when I noticed a vinyl sign for a new spot in the same building. The sign was for a new restaurant called Nara - Ramen & Izakaya.

What is Nara - Ramen and Izakaya?

I pulled up to Nara to take a couple of pictures and try to find some information. I found the number for Amy Xu taped to the restaurant's window, so I decided to get some answers from her.

When I talked to Amy, she informed me that Nara - Ramen & Izakaya will serve Traditional Japanese Ramen, Japanese-style appetizers, and Boba Tea from Taiwan. She also emailed me that menu items will include Spicy Beef Ramen, Spicy Miso Ramen, Takoyaki Octopus, Nara Milk Tea, and Taro Milk Tea.

If you have been in Bismarck-Mandan for a while, you may have heard of the restaurant's owner. Amy told me that Chef Rocky has been here for 12 years and that he actually introduced sushi and Japanese-style cuisine to Bismarck.

The opening day was initially supposed to be set for December, but there have been a couple of delays. Soon enough, though we will get to taste Bismarck's new Japanese restaurant for lunch and dinner.
