If you get a call from an unrecognizable North Dakota phone number, think twice before relinquishing any information. The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is warning state residents of a recent phone scam. The scam being someone on the other end of the call attempting to act as a representative of the Motor Vehicle Division.

State residents are being called by someone claiming their vehicle registrations are overdue and then instructed by the caller as to how to make a payment.

The department says that it does not make such calls in regard to Motor Vehicle registrations. The scam is meant to trick people into giving out credit card and other personal information over the phone as they believe they're making a payment.

The NDDOT suggests that if you receive a call like this, please hang up immediately. For questions about your vehicle registration, you can contact the NDDOT at (701) 328-2725 or email your questions to mv@nd.gov.
