North Dakota: Thanksgiving Foods You Shouldn’t Give To Your Dogs
We love our little fur-babies. They're like our children, so while we love to spoil them and make them feel like a true part of the family, there are some things we need to be aware of this holiday season.
Picture your adorable animal looking up at you from the Thanksgiving Day table with their big puppy dog eyes; it's hard to resist giving them table scraps, I mean, after all, it is the holidays.
While I totally get that, we need to make sure the foods we're giving our pups are safe.
Paws Off
There are some Thanksgiving foods that you should not serve to your dogs on Thanksgiving, even if they're drooling all over the floor.
Here's a list of foods your dogs can't eat on the holiday.
Foods Not Safe For Dogs
Onions
This might sound strange, but onions are bad for dogs. Who knew?! According to AKC.org, onions can cause damage to red blood cells. Sounds pretty serious, right?
Ham
No ham?! That's just not fair; ham is a centerpiece on the Thanksgiving table, I mean, other than the turkey.
Garlic
Garlic in large quantities can be problematic for humans and send us away for some serious toilet time, but what about dogs?
Well, the source says don't do it.
Leeks
I don't even know what a leek is, so I think it's safe to say I won't have to worry about my animals getting hold of one.
Stuffing
Not the stuffing! According to PetMD, stuffing is packed full of sodium and fats; it's best not to feed this to your dogs. Honestly, it's not really good for humans either.
Grapes
Next up: grapes. According to WebMD, grapes cause kidney issues; feeding these to your dogs can cause kidney failure or even death.
Turkey Bone
You can probably guess why it's a bad idea to give your dog a wishbone; they have sharp edges and can tear a dog's mouth, throat, and/or stomach.
There may be a few things I've missed here, but those are the few I've heard you should avoid. Enjoy your holiday, and thanks for reading!
