No matter what age we are, we all enjoy a sweet treat from time to time. Walking through the grocery stores, it's hard to resist picking up a couple of big bags of Halloween candy just for yourself.

While browsing the Halloween aisles at North Bismarck's Walmart the other day, I started wondering, when do we stop trick-or-treating? At what age should Bismarck-Mandan kids hang up their costumes for good? What's the age limit here?

Of course, there are no written rules on this, so I thought I'd ask you. I posted the question to our Facebook page to see what your thoughts were on this. At what age is it too old to go trick-or-treating in Bismarck-Mandan?

As soon as I posed the question, comments began to roll in, and many of you had strong opinions about this.

Some of your responses were hilarious:

"If I get any shorter, I may start trick or treating again." - Donna A.

Never! If you're coming to my door, you're getting candy! Cuz 80-year-olds need that good stuff! - Matthew S.

Honestly, if an 80-year-old showed up at my door in costume, I'd give them the whole candy bucket; they won Halloween.

Others were serious:

After they've graduated high school. I'd rather them trick-or-treating then throwing eggs, etc." - Alexandria B.
I couldn't agree more with this one. Let the kids have fun as long as they can. Also, save the eggs; they're expensive.
"There isn't one except the age someone wants to stop. Not all kids are the same, not all teens are the same. Stop attempting to put arbitrary nonsense rules on things that are subjective and up to the individual." - Lea S.
So, what do other sources say is the appropriate age to stop trick or treating? The Today Show conducted a survey, which found that 18 percent of parents believe kids should stop at 15 or 16 years old. 17 percent of parents think kids should stop at 17 or 18. Other parents suggested that kids should stop trick-or-treating at the age of 12 or 13, but the majority of respondents said kids should never be forced to stop.

Mind-Blowing Laws

Did you know that Chesapeake, West Virginia, once put a law into effect that prohibited kids over the age of 14 from trick-or-treating? If they were caught, they could have been charged with a misdemeanor and fined $250.
Not only that, but according to 9News, Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada passed a law prohibiting kids 16 and older from ringing doorbells.
