North Dakota parents are getting costumes ready for their kids. Halloween is a holiday we all look forward to. What's not to love? - Pumpkin patches, pumpkin spice lattes, haunted houses, and candy galore!

Many parents might be planning to take their kids to a trunk-or-treat.

If you've never been to a trunk-or-treat, let me paint a picture for you. Parents and their kids get dressed up in their Halloween costumes, gather in a parking lot, play games, and possibly take part in a costume contest. Different local businesses and people stuff the backs of their car trunks with candy, and kids trick or treat from car to car. It's a great time, and it's easier than dragging your child from house to house throughout the neighborhood.

We're Going Anyway, Right?

As chaotic as going to a trunk-or-treat can be, you have to admit it is fun for the kiddos. We go because it only happens once a year. The kids love it, and it's something they will remember and love about their childhood.

Yes, secretly, we love taking our kids to these events; dressing them up in little goofy outfits and seeing their eyes light up are things we can't help but gush over as parents.

The End of Normal Trick-or-Treating?

Even though some people may think trunk-or-treating events have killed normal Halloween trick-or-treating, I think they're pretty great. The games and contests are great fun for the kiddos, and they have a good chance of running into their friends and classmates, making it a nice social outing for them.

Have fun, and be safe this Halloween!

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
