Over the years, the NDSU Bison have become a dominant force. As one takes a look at the rosters over the years, there is something peculiar that begins to stand out. Could it be possible that the North Dakota State University football program purposefully recruits family members? When one starts to put pencil to paper, connecting the dots, there does seem to be a pattern. Especially when looking over the last decade.

BROTHERS

Although there are no official tallies that we are aware of, could this be possible? Since 2016 the North Dakota State University Bison has led the country in the number of siblings, specifically brothers?  And playing together on the same football team? According to the Fargo Forum, "it's approaching 20 for the Bison in that time frame."

More were added recently when it was announced that Bison player Kaden ZenZen, would be joined next season on the field as his brother Hunter Zenzen made it official that he is transferring from Iowa State to NDSU. Other current brother combinations on the team are  Will and Eli Mostaert and Gannon and Carson Williams. One more set of brothers to hit the field next fall will be when current Bison receiver RaJa Nelson will be joined by younger brother Najee Nelson.

THEORY

The brother talk did lead NDSU Bison Football head coach, Matt Entz, to address the crowd during his National Signing Day press conference in December when Entz said, "No one likes to hear my rationale but I'm going to explain it to you. Typically the younger brother is more talented and the younger brother hears all the stories... all the things that are tough about Bison Football. But they also hear the relationships, the excitement, the packed Fargodome, the experience and they still want to be here even though they're probably more talented of the two, have other opportunities but they kind of feel like they're part of this program already."

NDSU FOOTBALL

Between 2011 and 2021, the NDSU Bison have won nine NCAA Division I AA FCS National Championships, giving them a total of 17 national championships and 37 conference championships. The North Dakota State University (NDSU) will take on South Dakota State University (SDSU) Jackrabbits in Frisco, Texas at Toyota Stadium on January 8th, 2023 at 2 p.m. ET for the FCS Championship game. The game is scheduled to air on ABC.
