As you well know, North Dakota weather is unpredictable. Look at today, for example, more snow... are you kidding me?! Just when we thought we were in the clear. As we get further into spring and summer, you might want to activate this hidden phone feature; it could save your life.

Last spring and summer, we were hit hard by tornadoes across the state. While watching the news and checking your weather app is always a good idea on a stormy day, you might also want to enable emergency alerts on your phone, so you know when something is headed directly your way.

Emergency alerts will send you a loud message anytime something serious or dangerous is in your area. If you don't already have this feature enabled, here's what you should do.

How to Enable Emergency Alerts

Step 1. Open settings on your phone.

Step 2. Go to notifications.

Step 3. Scroll down to the very bottom of the page and turn on 'Emergency Alerts'.

You will also notice you can enable or disable Amber Alerts and Public Safety Alerts. You can also enable enhanced safety alerts (Earthquake Alerts, and Imminent Threat Alerts). Choose which ones you want to get notifications for and then you will be all set.
