Grocery shopping in 2025 was by no means cheap, and sadly, 2026 isn't looking too much better. A report was published by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics and it shows that several everyday foods that North Dakotans buy every month cost significantly more than they did last year.

1. Sirloin Steak
We love our meats in North Dakota, and sadly, the source says steak prices have risen 22 percent since last year. According to MSN and the Economic Research Service (ERS), shrinking herd sizes, along with changes in trade and production, are leading to a price surge for our red meats.
2. Cheddar Cheese
According to the source, a pound of cheese is up 21 percent from last year. According to MSN, tighter global milk supplies and rising labor and packaging costs also contributed to this price increase.
3. Coffee & Soda
Say it isn't so! Just when you thought coffee couldn't get any more expensive.
Many people in Bismarck can't live without our caffeine fix, so sadly, we will have to shell out some extra cash for these essential grocery items.
4. Snacks & Sweets
If you're like me, you've already given up on your New Year's resolution to lose weight and eat healthier, well, this might get you back on track. The ERS states that, due to rising sugar costs, this is one of four food categories where prices are expected to grow faster than their 20-year historical average.
While the cost of these grocery items seems to continuously rise, let's hope they don't get too astronomical in 2026.
Those are just some of the many things expected to increase this year. Check out the complete list with estimations on the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
