Upgrade Alert: North Dakota May Roll Out Black License Plates Soon
A bill (Senate Bill 2133) was introduced to the North Dakota Legislature, proposing that the North Dakota Department of Transportation offers black license plates to motorists.
According to The Jamestown Sun, the Senate Transportation Committee is taking testimony at 9:45 am today (January 16th, 2025).
The plates would be black with white lettering, and according to the source, in addition to the typical fees, those who purchase black plates will have to pay an initial $15 then another $25 annual fee.
You would also have to pay an additional $25 if you wanted any personalization, according to ValleyNewsLive.com.
Speaking of plates, the North Dakota Department of Transportation gets hundreds, if not more, requests for vanity plates every year. Many of them get rejected.

Success in Minnesota
According to MSN.com, the state of Minnesota rolled these plates out last year. The source says sales for the plates exceeded 250,000 that first year, which is far beyond their initial expectations.
As you know, the current license plate image on North Dakota plates shows a picture of the Badlands, and while some really like that, others prefer a cleaner and more sophisticated look.
If approved, you would simply go to the North Dakota Transportation website, and put in an order under "Special Request Plate Search." It could take 8 to 10 weeks for them to receive your request.
Did You Know: Minnesota offers many different plates. You can get a Minnesota Vikings plate as long as you make a $30 annual contribution to the professional sports team's foundation.
The same goes for Minnesota Twins Plates.
