Mandan Coach Steps Down After Shocking Poolside Allegations

Raging Rivers Waterpark is a place many of us take our families to enjoy some sunshine and have a good splash. It's a fun place to go and spend some time at during the summer months.

On Saturday, July 23rd, a police report surfaced, causing a stir in the community. According to The Bismarck Tribune, the report indicated that the park manager of Raging Rivers was notified by other park employees that people were engaging in sexual activity at the pool. It was said that a man and woman were making hand movements under a towel that resembled sexual activity. This event was said to have taken place on Tuesday, July 19th.

The source says officers arrived at the scene and spoke to the park manager in regards to the "unwanted subject" complaint. The two individuals were identified as Mandan High School basketball coach and physical education teacher for Fort Lincoln Elementary, Shannon Copas, along with his wife, Aimee Copas. Both were asked to leave the premises.

The source says they left, but returned a short while later. Police asked the couple to leave again.

On Wednesday, July 27th, Shannon Copas resigned from his coaching position, citing in his resignation letter that the allegations were negatively affecting the team, and because of that, he felt it was necessary to step down as head coach.

Copas denies engaging in any inappropriate behavior, and explained that he and his wife were "Only kissing".

The source says that Mandan's Superintendent Mike Bitz has had discussions with local law enforcement to determine whether or not disciplinary action is necessary and if charges should be filed.

The source says local police tried to obtain security footage, but were unable to do so due to an internet outage at the facility. Few other details have been released as this is an ongoing investigation.
