Bismarck-Mandan Lost & Found: Why Are We Doing This?
We see it every day. These posts pop up in our timelines... It's possible I'm missing something, but I find it a little odd.
Have you ever scrolled through your Facebook feed and saw that a person posted a photo of someone's lost ID? The person who owns the ID/Driver's License left it at a gas station, a grocery store, or even dropped it on the ground.

The do-gooder who found it posts a picture to a BisMan Facebook group, blacking out the address, in hopes of locating the individual who lost this valuable piece of plastic. They mention in the post where they found it, what time it was, and what day it was.
While that's very nice, and what any respectable member of society/concerned citizen might do, I have to question this action.
The address is on the card. The name is on the card. We know who it belongs to and where they live. It's not a mystery. This isn't a puzzle. Why are we hoping to find this person via social media?
Why are so many of us posting online, rather than just dropping it in the mailbox of this person's clearly printed address?
Ok, let's give the benefit of the doubt here. Let's say you're not sure. After all, this person may be dangerous. Or let's say they live far out of town, and you don't want to drive. Why leave it to the Facebook universe when you can lick a stamp and send it?
Maybe I'm missing something, and I'm fully willing to accept that, but it seems pretty simple.
Of course, people move and, on occasion, don't update their IDs. I understand. But... why not just drop it off at the police station so an officer can contact them and/or drop it off?
No hate, just wondering.
